Discussion on Courage

As we move forward we will begin to examine the three key journey components individually that make up CFA=D Journey Model. (+/-)

Understanding these components as individual parts, how they function, and specifically how we individually are able to monitor and influence them to a greater or lessor extent during our journeys is all important to CFA=D (+/-) being a useful working tool in our lives.

One of the primary thoughts for CFA=D (+/-) is that our journeys are relative to us as individuals; our journeys are intimate to each of us.  Often when I teach the model to people I cover this idea with a simple example that goes as follows:

I explain that there are two individuals who seek to reach a destination.  The first, I explain has a goal to reach his/her mail box.

                                   f
* So Person X C-----a-------D  (Mail Box +/-) c2018
                                   f

Then I explain that the second person desires to climb Mt. Everest.

                                      f
* And Person Y C------a---------D (Mt. Everest +/-) c2018
                                      f

At face value, it would be easy to make the claim that there is nothing relative about one going to the mail box vs scaling Mt. Everest; however, as I have pointed out these journeys come from our individual perspectives.  Assume that the person who is seeking to go out to their mail box has suffered from sever agoraphobia and the anxiety associated with that condition.  This seemingly simple task for this person might seem larger in scale than the person who is seeking to summit Mt. Everest for the third time etc.  This relative personal journey idea is very important for one to gain the most from the practical application of CFA=D (+/-) because no matter who you are your journeys to reach your destinations are exactly that, yours alone to overcome and accomplish regardless of their scope or nature.

I point that out this morning to begin the discussion specifically on the pillar of courage.  We each seek and find our courage from different motivators. Similarly,  just as the whole model is relative to us as individuals, so are its components as stand alone parts to us each.  In the end a person, X for example who has found courage and person Y will look the same in regards to this component in their relative actions.  The courageous solider on the battle field leading his/her troops into harms way has the same qualities as a cancer patient who may comfort their loved ones knowing that they may die and visa versa.  It is how we each reach this end of the courage spectrum that is important and something we must understand to use the  Component (C+/-) in our model to its full effect. It is our ability to learn where we find this individual courage, how we each build it, and how we rejuvenate it as we travel along a path facing setbacks and circumstances that seek to discourage us that is critical to our success'..

A key idea about courage is how it relates to the unknown.  Inherently as humans we seek to control our surrounding and environments; we seek to eliminate as much perceived uncertainty as possible from our lives.  This idea is contrary to The Universe we exist in at its core; The Universe is so vast in its scale that even if it were ever shown to be finite in some form, we still could not hope to be able to predict its chaos (uncertainty https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Uncertainty_principle_(disambiguation)) effects.  I believe that courage exists solely to allow us to deal with this inherent uncertainty which is built into the system that we exist. (More on freewill and the reason for this set up later).  In regard to our journeys, we can certainly make predictions about the outcome and maybe even anticipate setbacks along the way, but we can only predict.  We can not be certain of the outcome until it has been reached.  This is where courage is required along the way, and very important as a lead component to our travels.  In the CFA=D (+/-) model it is the first component required for this reason alone. Please keep in mind though, all three components are interdependent and interactive with one another; in a sense they feed and build on or off of one another. The idea of a positive or negative feedback loop applies here, and is at work in between the CFA=D (+/-) components. It could be argued that faith or action proceeds courage; the model uses the components in a circular fashion so they are all closely related in action and reaction with one another.  However, there needs to be a starting point, and I believe it is key to start with courage.  Interestingly enough so did Airstolote. “Courage is the first of human virtues because it makes all others possible."

Today I will end here, but now credible research on courage will be added to better understand and learn to build this component as we go.

Thank you for taking the time to travel along with me on this journey.
God Bless, Danny.
